Glowing radiant skin is at the forefront of social media, marketing, and commercials. Different serums and skin care regimens are constantly being thrown in our faces. On top of everything society throws at us in the form of WHAT THEY SAY WE NEED, there are unrealistic expectations everywhere. People lie about their age, have plastic surgery and Botox, and spend lots of money.
I want beautiful skin just as much as the next woman, but I like healthy, beautiful skin. When you look at labels, you will quickly see they are filled with ingredients you can’t pronounce, don’t want on your body, or do the opposite of what they claim to do. Don’t get me wrong, not all products are harmful, and there are some great ones out there. I just want to control what’s going on in my body and to be able to customize it to my wants and needs.
I have learned I can DIY most of my needs and enjoy it. It allows me to control what’s in it, stay on budget, and be creative. Here are three DIY recipes for radiant skin.
Facial Peel
Ingredients:
- 1 T of unflavored gelatin
- 2 T of warm water or brewed green tea
- 1 T of charcoal powder
- 1 tsp of bentonite clay
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Directions:
Step 1: Fully dissolve the gelatin in the warm water or green tea.
Step 2: Mix in the remaining ingredients.
Step 3: Use enough to cover your face in a thin layer. Leave on until fully dry, typically between 10 and 30 minutes.
Step 4: Gently peel off the mask.
Energy Sugar Scrub
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of turbinado sugar (or other chunky sugar)
- ½ cup of olive oil
- 30-40 drops of essential oil (choose from peppermint, spearmint, orange, or lemon)
Directions:
Step 1: Select your essential oils (see safety information before choosing). You can blend multiple.
Step 2: Combine essential oils and olive oil.
Step 3: Mix this combination with the sugar; put it in a jar.
Facial Moisturizer
Ingredients
- ¼ cup of shea butter
- 1 tsp of evening primrose oil
- 3 T of apricot oil
- 5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Directions
Step 1: Melt the shea butter to a liquid over low heat.
Step 2: Mix in the remaining oils and essential oil
Step 3: Put in a jar and cool to room temperature.
